Mindfulness-based wisdom in the workplace

Celebrate - Canva Banner (13).png

By combining our expertise in management and mindfulness-based wisdom, we help individuals and organisations to lead with true presence. This not only enriches the way they work, but also opens up new perspectives and practices that resolve real issues.

We offer Experiential Learning Workshops for individuals and Breakthrough Consultancy Projects for organisations.

What do we mean by ‘presence’? :1. A natural quality that clearly and effortlessly transmits who you are to the world, giving you prominence and influence. 2. The condition of being present, which enables you to focus and act with innate clarity and wisdom.

Presence is considered to be one of the ‘make or break’ factors when weighing up C-suite promotion decisions.
“Deconstructing Executive Presence” in Harvard Business Review, 2012

Our mission is to be part of the movement to create a new working paradigm - to unlock the true potential of people and organisations, so they flourish from the inside out.

Business as usual isn’t working

We’re in the midst of a cultural shift. More people are challenging the model of how we work – not just because it’s taking a toll on our health and wellbeing, but also because it no longer makes good business sense.

Here are some pain-points that many of us experience in the workplace of today:

  • Having to do more and more with less and less – A relentless quest for new growth and competitive advantage from tightly squeezed budgets.

  • Over-scheduled, ‘always-on’ work mode – causing chronic stress, fatigue and burnout.

  • Bureaucracy that sabotages progress – rather than encouraging proactivity and innovation.

  • A sense of needing more space – to breathe, to reflect more deeply on what’s really important and to find the breakthrough solutions we know are possible.

  • A longing for meaning and contribution – to bring our authentic self to work, and engage our hearts as well as our minds.

New thinking is emerging about how to reinvent organisations and how to change the way we work. At the same time, there is burgeoning interest in mindfulness in the workplace. These two movements are actually connected.

We believe that having a true understanding of mindfulness, its techniques and benefits will be ever-more important as work trends evolve.

 Taking mindfulness into the workplace

Mindfulness defined: Paying attention to your experience in the present moment; a method of accessing and strengthening your innate capabilities – bringing focus, calm, clarity, creativity and adaptability.

Mindfulness has become something of a buzzword in recent years. It appears on magazine covers, at Silicon Valley conferences, as personal practice apps and as corporate training programmes. Mindfulness is often over-complicated and undervalued, in two key ways:

  1. There’s still confusion about what mindfulness is and how to benefit from it. Our approach is to demystify, simplify and integrate mindfulness into working life. We do this in our Experiential Learning Workshops for individuals (or groups within organisations). These sessions are firmly rooted in today’s workplace challenges and opportunities. They help you apply mindfulness in situ to find fresh perspective and true self-leadership.

  2. Mindfulness is often used as a means of stress reduction to support employee wellness programmes. This is an effective approach but it doesn't grasp the full potential of mindfulness in the workplace. We bring mindfulness into the heart of your operations and strategic issues. Our Breakthrough Consultancy Projects create a space for mindfulness and presence. From there, we help you to bring new clarity, creativity and wisdom into your work processes and leadership culture.

We work with individuals and organisations who…

  • Share our belief that we need to rethink our personal and organisational working practices;

  • Value their health and wellbeing, their colleagues and the wider community;

  • Are open to mindfulness-based approaches, even if not familiar with them;

  • Have a sense of curiosity, openness to change and shared responsibility for outcomes.

 Shifting our perspective

You can’t solve a problem with the same level of consciousness that created it
— Albert Einstein

The key to unlocking effective responses and creative solutions can be found by first expanding into presence, using mindfulness techniques. This means learning to ‘let go’ of mental effort and resistance and then ‘let come’ new possibilities and insights from a space of clarity, wisdom and ease.

We stay true to the authentic essence of mindfulness. Our approach is practical, engaging and relatable for participants. And importantly, it’s grounded in first-hand experience of real business issues and day-to-day workplace tensions.

About us

In 2019, we met and discovered we had a great deal in common: years of high-level business experience; a deep commitment to ‘inner work’ and self-realisation; and a growing ’pull’ to explore and emphasise the synergies between these two areas.

A series of stimulating and inspiring conversations unfolded. How could we support a new way of being in the workplace – not only to ease stress and bring out the best in employees, but also as an innovative approach to problem solving and strategy development?

The result is Lead with Presence, a new consultancy that we are proud of co-creating, and excited to be rolling out in 2020.

Between us we have a wealth of experience:

  • Business and management consultancy

  • Life and Executive Coaching

  • Zen Coaching

  • Breathwork

  • Creative facilitation

  • Internal Family Systems psychotherapy

  • Different traditions and techniques of mindfulness, meditation and self-realisation

We offer a unique mix: a grounded standpoint, a head for business and a roving spirit of curiosity and inner expansion. Our approach can be described as ‘mindful disruption’.

Abhiyana Michelle Singer

My name means 'exploration' in Sanskrit, and it sums up how I've always lived my life. After a Master’s degree in Social Psychology/Communications (LSE), I spent almost 20 years working for a strategic insight consultancy, helping top companies to navigate future-focused risks and opportunities. This culminated in five years as Senior Vice-President, based in New York City.

As I progressed in my career, I also became more curious about new approaches to wellbeing, particularly as I grappled with my own challenges around chronic pain, burnout and broader life purpose. After training in various therapies – myofascial bodywork, Life & Executive Coaching, energy healing and mindfulness – I built a sideline practice supporting other people.

In 2008, I took a sabbatical and spent two years living in Thailand and India while working as a therapist. This was a time of huge personal growth and self-realisation, moving between alternative communities, spiritual teachers, remote retreats and intensive meditation centres. When I returned to corporate life, I noticed that I brought greater clarity, presence and authenticity; I was more effective in my work, but it also felt more fun and sustainable.

I enjoyed managing and mentoring others to the same end, so I then set up my own coaching business, subsequently training in Zen Coaching and Internal Family Systems psychotherapy. I have full professional accreditation in this area and a varied, engaged client base. Increasingly, I’m fascinated by the challenges posed by the ‘future world of work’ and believe strongly that mindfulness-based approaches hold the key – for individuals and for the organisation as a whole.

Over the past 20 years, I have thrown myself into what seemed like 3 very different passions - that of how organisations tick which led me to an MBA and work as a management consultant; a fascination with the deeper questions in life, such as “who am I?” and “why am I here?”, which led to exploration into meditation and esoteric philosophies and thirdly, a desire to express myself creatively through colour and clay which continues to nourish my life.

A few years ago it dawned on me that far from being incompatible areas of my life, there were great gifts in combining them in the work that I do. I believe that the balance between rational and analytical skills and creativity and mindfulness is essential to the success of any organisation.

I am a trained homeopath, have a BSc in Marketing and Management from Reading University and a Masters in Business Administration from Lancaster University. In addition to my work as a management consultant, I run courses and workshops on mindfulness, meditation, breathwork and creativity. I have lived and worked in many different countries and speak Spanish and Italian.

I am currently training to be a Breathwork facilitator having recently discovered the power of conscious connected breathing to break through old patterns and live in flow.

In 2017, I was privileged to be asked to write a book about crafting, creativity and mindfulness, entitled "Mindful Crafting: The Maker's Creative Journey", which was followed by Mindful Travelling: Journeying the World, Discovering Yourself in 2019.
